How Did Info-Gap Theory Start?

Info-gap theory emerged in response to design and planning decisions under severe uncertainty. As the info-gap methodology for modelling and managing uncertainty developed, new problems were addressed, which in turn led to further conceptual development.
Info-gap theory has developed through four stages, and it continues to grow:

The first field which was studied was the assay of material

The second class of problems to be addressed was in the field of mechanical systems

The third stage was the development of a theory of mechanical reliability

The fourth stage was the development of a generic info-gap theory of decision under uncertainty…

Have you confronted design or planning problems for which standard methods are cumbersome or inadequate? Perhaps info-gap theory can help. Contact me at yakov@technion.ac.il
